Adults with Disabilities Program Details

We have an Adults with Disabilities program that is being run by our founder Kevin Proulx with TortoiseLand staff and volunteers mentoring adults with disabilities to accomplish some of the important care and support of tortoises.
We are working closely with Ability First and U&I to find participants with skills and aptitude to prosper in our program.
We have seen significant success with the adults in our mentor program. They are learning soft skills like communications, social media, and teamwork as well as specific skills regarding animal husbandry.
We have transitioned a few adults with disabilities to part-time TortoiseLand employees.
We would like to expand our program to be able to take advantage of mentorship programs like Ability First. That will allow us to formally offer part-time employment opportunities for even more volunteers. Our goal is to build a staff based on our adults with disabilities add job satisfaction and references to their resume and help prepare them to integrate further with society.
