November 2025 Newsletter:

Hey everyone,

TortoiseLand is literally on the map!  We hit the huge milestone of 40,000 views on google search and our phone is still ringing off the hook with requests to rehome or adopt Tortoises.

Since the last newsletter we were invited to another local preschool open house, and the kids loved interacting with the tortoises! Two more preschools have since invited us to come visit with the tortoises.

Most importantly, we have rehomed more than a dozen of our tortoises, including several exotics such as Red Foots and Leopards, which command a high rehoming fee.  The proceeds from these adoptions are helping keep us afloat but are not enough to keep us going.

We need to raise $17,000 before December 31st or we may be forced to close TortoiseLand.

The fate of Digger, Hollywood Sushi, Leo the Leopard, Big Red, and the rest of our critters is in serious jeopardy.  We may have no choice but to sell or give away all the incredible tortoises and turtles that our followers from around the world know and love.

To help save TortoiseLand we are hosting a Thanksgiving community yard sale and open house. On December 13th Henry Goods, the incredible artist who created TortoiseLand’s stunning murals, is hosting the largest fundraiser we’ve ever held at his amazing art gallery and studio.

What is TortoiseLand?

TortoiseLand is a sanctuary for tortoises in Los Angeles, CA. Our nonprofit organization rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes these amazing animals, plus we educate the public about them and their vital importance in our world.

Why Do We Do It?

Tortoises make fantastic companions, but too many pet stores and tortoise owners don’t know how to properly care for them. The result – these majestic creatures end up sick, neglected, abandoned… or dead. On top of that, many species of tortoises are endangered in the wild and some are even on the brink of extinction.

Our Mission

To make the world a better place for tortoises and save them before it’s too late.

We Need Your Support

Tortoises, just like humans and other animals, need food, shelter and medical care in order to survive. Many of the tortoises we rescue require special care in order to regain their health. We want to do our very best for each resident of Tortoiseland.

We have the passion, energy and commitment. But we don’t have the money to do as much as we’d like. We’ve emptied our own pockets and now we’re asking you to reach into yours. The reward – entry into a thriving community of fun, quirky, four-legged individuals, headed by a human who’s pretty fun and quirky himself.

The Man Behind the Mission

Kevin Proulx (The Tortoise Guy)…

has been making the world a better place for tortoises for over 20 years. Here’s the impact this one man has had:

Touching Hearts & Minds…

is the way to create true change. That’s why we spend a lot of time reaching out to people to show them how fascinating and fun tortoises are. Whether it’s through “The Tortoise Guy” videos and livestreams on YouTube and TikTok, social media, or appearances at special events, our goal is always to get people up close and personal with a tortoise. Once someone meets a tortoise, they care about them. Then they’re naturally interested in learning about the dangers they face and want to help. Plus, they’re usually eager to spread the word to their friends.

We’ve touched hearts and minds around the world through YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, inspiring others to help tortoises on their own. Our online presence and personal appearances have also made an impact closer to home.

Our Leaders

The members of our Board of Directors come from diverse backgrounds and professions, but all share a deep love for animals and a strong commitment to improving their welfare and future. Each one brings unique expertise and experience to this endeavor; collectively, we cover all the bases needed to succeed.
